She first spoke out after the suicide of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who killed himself after he was teased about being gay. (Before taking his life, he’d posted on Facebook a Gaga lyric, “

Don't forget me when I come crying to heaven’s door.”) Gaga’s response to Jamey’s death on Twitter started with an understandable swell of emotion. “The past days I've spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someones life,” she wrote, linking to the “It Gets Better” video Jamey made before he died. Then Gaga latched onto a bad idea: “Bullying must become illegal,” she tweeted. “It is a hate crime.”

The singer has always made her love for New York known, especially in song, and now she's reaching out when her city needs her most. Following the destruction that Hurricane Sandy left in her beloved hometown, Lady Gaga decided to take action. On Wednesday (November 7), Gaga donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts in New York City.

"If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today," Gaga said in a statement posted on her website. "New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is natural pursuit of diversity through compassion."

She continued, "Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali: with our deepest gratitude New York is raising for us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours. Sincerely, Lady Gaga and The Germanottas."

Earlier this week, Lady Gaga tweeted out a previously unreleased track, "No Floods," as a way to honor her hometown while she is overseas on the Born This Way Ball Tour. "No matter lightning or thunder/ Buckets of rainwater/ You can't flood this town/ In a world unknown/ You've gotta hold your own/ And you can't stop me/ You're never ever, ever gonna stop me now," she sings on the track.

Like Lady Gaga, so many others have donated in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and that outpouring of support to those affected by the storm is not slowing down anytime soon.

On Thursday, November 15, the cast of "Jersey Shore" is teaming up with the nonprofit organization Architecture for Humanity for "Restore the Shore," a live benefit that will ask viewers to contribute to the rebuilding and restoration of Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

Drew bBrees + $1 Million To Hurricane Sandy---Drew Brees foundation $17 million to causes, Drew Brees most influential athletes forbes 2013, Statistics will never tell the true story of Drew Brees. In 50 or 100 years, they won't do him justice. That's not to say his stats don't tell an incredible tale: Brees' numbers rank with any other quarterback of his era, and his consecutive games with a touchdown (53 and counting) has already put him in a conversation with the great Johnny Unitas. He has as many Super Bowl rings as Peyton Manning, and he's got a few years left to get another.

Yet those who have watched Brees at Purdue, at San Diego, and now at New Orleans know he's greater than the sum of his stats. And now we have more proof. Now we have a number that goes beyond all the numbers.
